Description:
My concept for this assignment was to find a way to collaborate with water. Which ways could I capture the essence, shape and voice of it? I started off the project with visual experimentation using cyanotype: A method that uses water to dissolve and distribute a chemical solution on paper which can be used as a way to take an analog photograph. I documented my experimentation on small watercolor cards that I bound together to form a booklet. The experiments were illustrated and documented on the back of each card. The final outcomes of the project were a result of what I learned from the experiments, displayed on A4 watercolor paper. With this project, I am seeking to capture the subtle details of water in different locations of interest all the while allowing the water to express itself through its unique conditions. Each location's water expresses a different visual characteristic based on the flow, temperature, lighting and chemistry. The prints also include the unique types of flora that can be found growing around and near the water. They are used in the compositions to further connect the print to the location. All together, these pieces show a direct collaboration between water and I with regard to the ways that I chose for it to speak out: As direct visualizations of the serendipitous nature of working with water.
